A leaf dweller in the garden taken this summer at the same time as the teazle leaves I showed a few days ago. I like how this insect (aphid?) is translucent in its extremities.

More shots from the iris series in my garden taken in the summer. One morning the nearby grasses were casting shadows on the iris leaves, and some of them looked very much like writing. In a language I could not quite make out.

I was not going to post more of these quite so soon after Leaf Topography of yesterday, but my evening schedule conspired to necessitate a quick post, so two days in a row we get these landscapes from the surface of teazle leaves

The teazle leaves in July were a bright green – these ones, though you would not know it, were yellow soaked in early morning sun.
I thought this subject suited a square format very well. Perhaps that it is because they look a lot like old aerial photographs of waterways. Air photos always seem to be in a square format, though they are becoming rare things these days like other film products.

At this stage in life teazles are still soft and not nearly as spiky as they look, or become. This one is in the garden next door and was taken in early July.

Another small boat from the Classic Boat Festival of a week ago, this one is steam-powered. Steam engines are wonderful things to photograph. They have so many intricate parts, on display and not hidden under hoods, cowlings or decks.

More photos from the Coho Ferry, taken on the way to Port Angeles and the Olympic Peninsula in July.
Today I show a variety of edits made using Topaz B&W Effects software, just to give a sense of a few, very few, of the preset edits possible. I use the Topaz software as a plugin to Lightroom 4. One example in the gallery is the original image, unmodified. Another example is a black and white conversion done only in LR4. The remainder are made using various presets in B&W Effects, and most then have two dust spots cloned out in LR4 as I forgot to do this in original before exporting to Topaz.
I have used this software a bit over the past month or so, and other examples of edits made with one or another of these presets can be found here and here and here, all of which I think are very successful conversions.
