SGang Gwaay VIII

Another shot taken while travelling on the Passing Cloud to the UNESCO World Heritage Site SGang Gwaay located on the south-west side of Gwaii Haanas.

Access to the village is tightly regulated – including the numbers of people ashore at one time, the beaches they disembark upon and the timing of tours through the site.

This is in aid of preserving the visitor experience as a special time for quiet contemplation and to preserve the level of impact to the site from visitors.

This photo was taken on the main beach used for accessing the trail to the site.

I expect that people who arrive at the site by such peaceful means are especially grateful for the attentions to keeping visitors spread out through the day.

If you want to know more about SGang Gwaay I have written about it in several posts (link) from previous visits.

SGang Gwaay VII

Another shot taken while travelling on the Passing Cloud at the UNESCO World Heritage Site SGang Gwaay on the south-west side of Gwaii Haanas.

On this visit Harold was our engaging Haida guide.

He shared a lot of history of the place, and of his own family and clan connections to the crests on these poles.

It is always a pleasure to hear about these connections that keep places like this alive in the culture and descendants.

If you want to know more about SGang Gwaay I have written about it in several posts (link) from previous visits.

Open Skies

From The Road

I have been working on Quadra Island the past few weeks.

This is a common sight along logging roads.

Normally one is driving past these young forests and tree trunks flicker as they blur past.

This out of focus view sort of captures the effect.

I did take video, and when home will work some of that up and post it too.

I am driving south today, so tomorrow will be back to the home routine.
