Glenshiel Corner
One morning last week I was doing a drop off in the parking lot behind the Royal BC Museum in Victoria and was taken by the lighting on the south face of the Glenshiel building. Built as a hotel in 1908/1909, it has long been a residence for senior citizens. There is a brief history of the building here. It has many interesting details when looked at closely.
The hotel was designed by architect D.C. Frame. A few months ago it was added to the City of Victoria Heritage Register. Frame designed other significant buildings in Victoria, most noteworthy is probably the Chinese school on Fisgard Street. He was also one of the architects involved with the design of the recently demolished Memorial Arena, a landmark and representative of its era that some were sad to see go.

The lighting is really sharp…shows off the detail.

Hi obrienspix – thanks for coming by again. The photo would be pretty indifferent in the more usual light later in the day – often one really has to make an effort to notice a lot of these same details.

Hi Toad – thanks so much for visiting my blog again, and all your support. It’s really appreciated. I was just going to post another building photograph from lower Pandora St. and discovered a nearly identical photo on your web site. I might post it anyway, even though its “been done”.

Very good. Exactly the kind of photography I like: recording time pieces.
