Beach Stairs IV
More from my monochrome series of the spiral staircase at Beacon Hill Park.
I promise that for the next post in this series we will actually venture onto the stairs, though I don’t think we will make it to the top. Unlike the woman in her bright orange coat with her energetic dog that skittered on up those stairs like they weren’t there.

The tower above has echos of the watchtowers that David Lockwood has recently been showing us from Oman, though not nearly as aesthetically satisfying as his ones.

Love the shadows and light at play here, that curved surface really makes for a wonderful element to cause the light to bend. This entire series benefits greatly from your HDR blending and monochrome results, producing terrific textures and details. Absolutely wonderful!

Thank you Toad. HDR seemed the logical choice for this subject with a wide dynamic range. Glad you are enjoying the series.

These are all very nice – I like the way the light falls on the curved staircase.

Hi Melinda – I really like the light too and the way that strip of more glossy paint near the top edge of the curve highlights the curve a bit.

Though i love the curve of the staircase, Park steps 8 is the strongest image in this group for me. This is the simplest composition but the diagonal line in the center and the cure at the top are really nice.

Thank you Ken. I am glad to hear you say that as it is my favourite too. Even the lens vignette cooperated on this shot and I did not feel it necessary to tone it down like I often do. What about the focus on that shot? I vacillate between liking the way it is focused and wanting more depth of field for the upper part.
