New Rubber

Big O tire change 10

Yesterday I presented a time-lapse video of the tires being changed on my car. Today I show some stills taken from that sequence as I thought there were a few shots that flit by in the video which are worthy of a closer look.

These shots are taken at Big O Tires in Victoria who kindly agreed to me making a video while waiting for my car to be re-shod. The exposures were deliberately taken at a slower shutter speed to blur the movement in the timelapse a bit to blend the motion together. Thus, many of these shots are not totally sharp, but for some that works well.

    • No one has ever said that before Lynn. The lemon is the unwelcome necessity, not the car, which has been great. I am glad you like these shots. It was a lot of fun to look at each of these oh-so-many shots for nice little gems like these ones. Instructive too, because many of the shots I found are ones I would have taken were I actually choosing when to press the shutter and they were quite boring compared to the ones I ended up choosing. These ones have more motion, implied or evident from blur, and expressions of intelligence on the faces that are often more blank as routine tasks are completed.

  1. This is probably the most ambitious TL I’ve seen here. Great!!! NYS laws prohibit customers in services areas so I’m wondering if this was shot through a window or in the service area. Also, it’s strange that there are two identical cars there at the same time.

    • Hi Ken, and thanks!
I expect the rules here are little more relaxed. I set the camera up about 2 feet inside the bay entrance and then stood outside. When I had to move it I pulled it right out of the entrance to the corner of the door. Inside the bay there were two doors from the customer area and if I had time to scout it out might have chosen one of those for setup.
It is strange, but there are a lot of these cars here. And, they are not quite identical – wheels and tires being a major difference. One is a sport model, the other a base. Subtle differences though.
