Portholes, Windows and Varnish

Window details of some boats in the Classic Boat Festival. Most of these shots are of the Zanzibar, whose wonderful transom showed in this post, and more information about the vessel can be seen in one of the comments.

These are fantastic photos Ehpem. The warmth of the wood, the gloss of the varnish, the craftsmanship in the woodworking…just doesn’t get any better!

Thanks David – I agree. These are real boats. Not that I don’t like fibreglass or aluminum boats, but these ones have that feel of wood which must have defined vessels for thousands of years. Perhaps not often this well kept, but even so …

VERY nice framing in the first picture.

Thanks skadhu! Glad you like that. I took several shots until I was satisfied with the (a) person being in the right place – they were moving through pretty fast and no sooner were they in view than they could disappear.

The rich honey-colored wood is very nice.

It is, I can’t bear the thought of a b&w conversion for these, though I think a couple might stand up to it, or even do better. Like the portal shot – I worry that the person spied through the far side portal is lost amongst the golden hues.

These boats looks so good and they smell like money!

They do look good. I think money and boats necessarily go together, at least for ones that need a slip and so on. The small ones may just smell of a loving care and attention and loads of time.
