🙂 Without offending the good residents of this town……. are they a little crazy ?!

Some lighting engineer might be, but the people that have to navigate this intersection would need to be anything but to avoid a huge pile up at rush hour (not that they have a rush hour, but…).

Life could get interesting when they all start swaying in a high wind! Well spotted and I like the letterbox style.

Thanks Andy – high wind is common in the winter around here, so local drivers must be quite experienced with that problem!

For some reason, your photos of the these traffic lights amuse me. I like how you’ve cropped the shots, especially the last two. Also, it looks like the poor guy waiting to turn left is NEVER going to get a green arrow!

I think it is often the way of left turn lanes that one waits forever for the light to change. The cropping seemed the way to go for this subject.

When we lived in New Orleans, we had to learn a turn maneuver that we named the “New Orleans left.” Left turns weren’t permitted at most intersections, to make a left, we had to make a right and then a U-turn. Or, go past the intersection, make a U-turn and THEN a right. It was very confusing.

Not very green, if I may say so – all that extra driving all over the city. Probably less safe as well.

My dad says that left turns are inefficient, from a traffic engineering standpoint. But the N.O. Left hardly seems more efficient!

The photos look like the array of lights may be confusing but I’ll bet it is obvious to drivers. I think the light manufacturers have successfully marketed the safety of multiple lights and now we see them everywhere except in some locations where they are actually needed.

Hi Ken. I think they are clear to the driver, or at least to a driver that has been through a couple of times. As you say, other locations might well benefit from a couple of the ‘extras’ from this intersection.
