Standard Lighting

Someone let me know if I am trying your patience with some many pictures of the same concrete barrier – it is the one with the paper graffiti affixed. And the light standard is the same as seen in this shot.
Of these two shots I prefer the first one, especially the way the eye follows the curve to the edge of the frame and then doubles back. In the second shot, my eye just kind of falls off the end of the barrier. Having said that, I would have been satisfied with the second one if that was all I had. I kind of like the extra energy from the faintly seen jet contrail.

First one for me, hands down. I like the continuing sweep of the barrier in that one.

Thank you – reading your series of comments brings me to realise how indecisive I have been lately, all these posts with multiple versions! Must get over that.

I’m having trouble with coming up with titles lately. I expect it will pass, as well as your indecision will. 🙂

Yes, it’s the first one that has my vote too.

Hi Andy – thanks for your vote. I like the unanimity – it makes me feel like I have learned something about composition over the past couple of years, hard as I find it to articulate in words.

Totally have to agree for the same reasons, the first shot is my fav!

Thanks David! It was kind of fun to put this pair of shots up. Usually I don’t have so much difference between very similar ones, so it is nice to see that everyone is in agreement.

Yes, the top one is much better (in my opinion). I like the feeling it gives the viewer that the wall goes on forever.

Thanks Melinda. I like the two dark triangles, and the hidden part of the distant curve, they way they pull the eye around the photo.

The first one is the stronger of the two compositions, I agree, although the texture of the barrier in the second is very nice.

Yes. And there’s more depth in the first. Greater depth, whatever.

Hi Richard – more, greater does = whatever!

The first one for the reasons you give, also, all the energy of the lines are concentrated within frame.

Hi Patrick and thanks for your vote and explanation.

I prefer the first one too. (The same reason as yours, the composition).

Hi Malin, and thanks. It is nice to have the opinions of other people, the top one was taken after the bottom one. Even though I thought the bottom one was going to work out just fine I am glad I reframed it and tried again.
