Transformation
Sahsima is the Songhees First Nation name for this rock, which in their histories tells of a man who was harpooning seals and was turned to stone for rebuking Hayls the Transformer.
Compare this photo with yesterday’s to see how nature also transforms this place.
Reprised from January 2012.
I am in the field and totally off the grid for most of July, so my responses to comments will be interrupted.

How long did you have to wait for the kayaker? It gives the photo an element of time travel given the First Nations story that accompanies it.

Kate – the kayaker just arrived. I was hanging around but not waiting for anything in particular. That I knew of anyway.

Thanks Sherry – there are so many of these stories embedded in the landscape if only we could know them all.
