This building may be next to the street, but most certainly is not welcoming to street people.
It is an exclusive club. I assume they let (influential) women in, but if not I wouldn’t be too surprised.
The street knitter would never get in the door, not even the back door.
Neither would I.
I see this woman sitting in this sunny spot quite often and she is always knitting.
This is one of my attempts at candid street photography.
It is something I have pretty much given up on since it doesn’t feel quite right, and often proves to be a waste of film.
This is another shot of the trees next to the Anglican cathedral in Victoria, previously seen in Cathedral Blues.
This was made on the roll of black and white film that came in one of the camera backs and expired sometime.
The unopened Ektachrome that came with the camera expired in 1991, so that might be indicative.
But for a variety of reasons I think it is probably only about 10 years old.
However old, it works just fine.
What caught my eye was the reflected light on the car park.
A blue coat with a woman in it came by convincing me to take the shot.
One thing about the Mamiya is that I only have a standard lens for it, and fitting buildings into the frame can be difficult along the tighter streets in old town.
So a bit of rotation is sometimes tried, with varying degrees of success.
I think the Trounce Alley shot below works a bit better than the Maritime Museum shot above, which is in Bastion Square.
But the Museum, which is in an old courthouse, is a far more interesting building.
In this entry way to Market Square, which is behind a door rather than a gate, there are 3 or 4 of these letter writing stations.
All are locked up tight. Probably because people have forgotten how to write letters.
I wonder if it is actually an art installation.
These photos are taken in the same place, different days, different times with different types of film.
Some of you will recall my photos I post occasionally of cafe tables and chairs taken from above.
This walk way is along the route I take to get to the balcony that looks down on that scene.
The only reason I go this way is to see if there is a shot at the other end of the route, but sometimes the light is good for the these railings too.
See my About page for details.
