We went for a visit to the Horticultural Centre of the Pacific yesterday, which has an abundance of irises at the moment. This is not one of them, as was pointed out to me in the comments section below!.
I spent the last week teaching an archaeology course in Tofino which is on the west coast of Vancouver Island. I was extremely busy all day and in the evenings and thus could not get out for more than an hour during the entire week to take pictures, which was a bit frustrating since it is one of the most beautiful places that can be found at the end of a paved road.
However, this was compensated for by the view from my digs which I photographed from the patio outside my room. While working in the evenings on the laptop, this was the view when I looked up from the screen. It could have been much worse.
More from Thetis Lake taken on a beautiful morning in mid-January.
Winter colours can be quite spectacular in the early light.
Others in the series from this walk can be found here.
This is the winter-time roof of the boat house used by the Clover Point Anglers Association.
The boat house is over the edge beside the road and so its back wall is hidden from view.
This dog sidled into my photograph of railing and shadows at Gonzales Hill Observatory. I have shown other photos from this series, and there has been mixed reaction to whether the colour or black and white works best. In this photo, I prefer the monochrome version.
Does anyone else wonder how these little things can rightly be called dogs?
This strip of alders have grown up along a ditch like a wall of light and bark.
Today I am showing some of the panoramas shot with the camera in my phone, and some of the really interesting effects that arise from stretching it beyond intended use. I guess most people would just hit delete on these images, but to me they illustrate the opportunities for a bit of photographic fun.
See my About page for details.
