Fernwood West II

Back to Fernwood in Victoria for some black and white shots. These were all taken a few weeks ago when I ran a Fernwood series.

Above is the back side of Victoria High School. Massive and old it is still very much in use (two of my kids graduated from here). This view was not visible until last year, at least not for 40 years or more. A seismic upgrade saw the breeze block shop buildings removed a few months ago from the end of this street.

Strait Masts II

Strait Masts II

A few weeks ago I showed this same view of a schooner in a patch of sunlight in the Strait of Juan de Fuca, but with a 100mm lens. This view was taken immediately before I swapped out the wide-angle lens for something longer, and I knew I need to get in closer to make the most of this lighting.

Time Lapse In The Groove

In the Groove Timelapse Still

This is one of my favourite subjects,  Sahsima, the transformer stone on Harling Point, with a glacial groove in the bedrock foreground. This link recounts the Songhees story of origin for this stone, while this one is tries to reconcile their story with the origins described by glaciologists.

Today I feature another try at timelapse photography, taken yesterday just after sunrise. The image above is a still from the video below – it occurs at 11 seconds in. This is the second such video I have made (see this link for the first), though I did shoot two other series of images earlier this same morning, I have yet to process them into a video.

Drain Awash

Drain Awash 1

This photograph is from about a month ago, on one of those glorious early spring days. At this time of year the intermittent storms sculpt the beaches, drop and remove logs and change from day-to-day. In the summer change is slower with some logs staying in place for weeks at a time.
