Sahsima the glacial erratic and transformer stone is seen in the distance and beyond is the sailboat featured a few days ago, and the more usual ship trafficking between Vancouver and China.
When there is a good sky I can’t leave this pool alone, or really any of these pools at the Chinese Cemetery. I have previously posted about these pools, last year with Cloud Pool and a few weeks ago with Cloud Pool II, both of a pool near to this one.
I found eight clubs at my feet the other day on a street corner in Fernood. Run over and ground into the pavement, but still legible.
This view is looking across the Strait of Juan de Fuca to Washington State. Beyond the distant clouds is Port Angeles and the Olympic Mountains. It was a beautiful winter day and I had gone for a walk in the Chinese Cemetery with one of my house guests who stayed with use last week. After a few days of very grim overcast days, this scene from Harling Point was enough to convince him that Victoria is a wonderful place to live, even in the winter.
Some time ago I posted a photo, In the Groove, from this same vantage point. That post contemplates the competing stories for the origin of Sahsima, the rock in the middle distance. I think that post is worth reading again, or for the first time if you missed it before.
This sky, which I saw from the nearby parking lot while shopping, is what drew me into the cemetery to take some pictures. However, it was very difficult to get the sky into the shots due to trees, wires and other obstacles.
The top of this monument in Ross Bay Cemetery was featured in an earlier post, Cross Sky, one of my favourite shots from this test of the Canon G15. This is a pretty stark contrast in mood to that theatrical shot.
I have to wonder if the Beavens drank beer. I don’t doubt for a moment that they would severely disapprove of these leavings, though I expect they were soon collected by someone for recycling.
