I guess these taps are for filling flower vases, and watering the lawns in Ross Bay Cemetery. I don’t suppose the occupants get thirsty often enough to warrant stand-pipes.
Other parts of this grave monument featured in an earlier post; it appears to date from 1897, or earlier. It is cast from some kind of metal, and has wonderful details. While it may have been cast in Victoria, I suspect it was imported. How many others just like this there are around the world?
A cross in Ross Bay Cemetery surrounded with a granite curb. I was looking to capture the brightness of the light coloured stone against a dark yew hedge that borders the north boundary of the graveyard. High contrast processing seemed the best way to emphasize what I was seeing.
Another view in Ross Bay Cemetery from a couple of weeks ago, looking towards the bright ocean through the trees. I liked the bright light reflecting off the lighter coloured stone and the patterns it makes against the dark grass. And the contrast between the simple stone cross and the complex cast metal monument.

A few more shots from around the Fernwood neighbourhood in Victoria. These were all taken last weekend while I was shopping for baked goods, and are just some of the buildings that caught my attention. (more…)
A couple of old garages in the Fernwood neighbourhood in Victoria.
This is across the parking lot from the Yellow Parking post of a few days ago. At first I thought it was unsanctioned graffiti, but these are murals, placed on three walls of a concrete building which squats a bit like a bunker in the parking lot. I think that the Yellow Parking painting holds it’s own with these works.
I had already settled on my post title when I looked up Gallery 1580, and found it also called Cinderblock Gallery, so I must be on the right track. Turns out that there is a really nice set of images on Flickr of the painting of this mural – lots of good detail shots.
See my About page for details.
