Cowichan Bay has a number of stores along the waterfront, mostly in old buildings. This one is a bakery, inexplicably festooned with bicycles. The True Grain Bread website has no explanation or hints about the bikes, that I could see anyway. We did not go into the store as we had just eaten and were wandering around taking photos. I wish I had gone in, the bread looks wonderful.
One thing that caught my eye on the Cowichan Bay dock was various bits of furniture, or infrastructure if you like, that is on the various docks. I think they must be power supplies for hooking boats up to the mains, with a light on top in the pyramid.
Scenes from the Cowichan Bay dock continue with more yellow edges, red accents, and boats.
This is a follow-up to Dock Edge that I published earlier today. Ken Bello (Oneowner) suggested a tighter crop for the photo of a painted board which is attached to the side of a fish-boat. He thought it would make an interesting abstract and since he takes wonderfully coloured and textured abstracts (his latest example is just one of many) it seemed worth while pursuing the idea. When this was reinforced by a comment from Andy Hooker at LenScaper, I started this post. Your opinions about which works the best are welcomed.
More scenes from the Cowichan Bay dock that we visited early this week. It too has yellow edges, a pleasant surprise and nice to way to add to my recent photos of yellow edged streets.
Yesterday we had a trip to Cowichan Bay located about an hour north of Victoria. It is a very small village comprised mostly of touristy funky stores and eateries, but also is home to marinas and wharfs, house boats and a small, cramped shipyard. This little community is centred on the waterfront, with a cliff on the landward side of the road many of the structures are built out over the water, with their backs against the sidewalk. Other parts of the community are scattered in nearby farmland a bit inland.
A change of pace today as we move indoors next to the wood stove; appropriate on a windy and chilly fall day.
I made this picture of the fan that sits on the wood stove on the first day that we fired up the stove this fall. It was a much extended summer this year and we did not need the supplemental heat until three weeks ago. The last few days have been another story entirely with frost, clear skies and then yesterday a strong, cold wind.
