More airport fencing in Sandspit, Haida Gwaii.
A clam-shell lined trail at T’aanu in Gwaii Haanas (map link).
T’aanu Llnagaay is a Haida village that is now managed by Haida Watchmen who guide visitors through the village.
The clam-shells indicate where visitors are allowed to walk to control impacts to the cultural features.
They are also excellent trail markers in low light.
Visited while travelling on the Passing Cloud.
This is Bill Reid’s Skidegate Pole that he carved in 1976 for the village of Skidegate, Haida Gwaii.
It stood until a couple of years ago when it was taken down for safety reasons.
Currently it lies in carving shed at the Haida Heritage Centre in Skidegate, awaiting conservation so it can stand again, this time in the pole gallery in the Heritage Centre’s Museum.
For more information see this link.
So, what does one do while waiting in airports?
Take pictures of course, though at the Victoria airport, there is little to inspire, so I only took this one shot on this trip.
So, this location I cannot pin down anymore. I don’t think it is Lost or Tuft Island, but nothing looks right on the maps either.
It is, however, in Gwaii Haanas along the west shore of Hecate Strait, so that will have to do I guess.
Seen while cruising on the Passing Cloud.
We stopped at the Gordon Islands for a walk to the top of the main island (map link).
This was while travelling on the Passing Cloud in July.
Can you spot the running salmon?
At this scale, the trees are a bit like parts of a fish weir.
