Woodruff

Woodruff Bay is on the south end of Kunghit Island in Haida Gwaii.

I had never been able to disembark here on previous trips so it was a real pleasure to be able to while with the Passing Cloud.

Today is the 5 year anniversary of making at least one post every day.

That is 1916 posts, which seems like a huge number.

As I said last year I may abandon the post-a-day routine for something a bit less demanding.

But, I am not sure about that yet.

SGang Gwaay V

Mortuary poles in front of the house remains at a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Haida village of SGang Gwaay.

I was visiting while on a tour of Gwaii Haanas aboard the Passing Cloud.

If you want to know more about SGang Gwaay I have written about it in several posts (link) from previous visits.

It is in fact a fried-egg jellyfish (Phacellophora camtschatica) as pointed out by diver Ewan in the comments below.

We saw many of these from the Passing Cloud last summer, and pretty much every time I have been in Gwaii Haanas.

Cruising

While sailing on the Passing Cloud in Juan Perez Sound we passed this boat.

It was four months into a trip from Chile to Alaska and being sailed with flawless efficiency.

I don’t recall her name, but she seemed to be a French vessel, so perhaps this was just one leg on a global circumnavigation.

Kerouard Islands

The Kerouard Islands (map link) are at the southern extremity of Haida Gwaii.

These islands are classified as an Important Bird Area (see this link for more information) due to significant populations of various species.

While on the Passing Cloud we crossed through the gap between Cape St. James and these islands on our way around Kunghit Island.
