Reflective

2014-XA-002-17

I have tried this shot before with this same camera and with the Olympus Pen (a shot that was turned on its head by the film slipping). This version does not quite get where I want to be since the man’s reflection is not quite right and View Towers in the background is blown out a bit too much, but I do like the contemplative feel. Oddly enough the man in this picture is the same one as is carrying the carpets shot a couple of months earlier. I suppose he works in the carpet store that is behind the windows on the left – do you think carpet salesmen have more than the usual amount of things to reflect upon?

I cropped this shot square for use on Instagram, and I like it in that format too, though on balance I prefer the original framing above, and probably the framing in the earlier shot with carpets even better. It is interesting to shoot the same subject multiple times – I have a couple of others, and at least one more on the current roll that is in the camera. This spot is right next to my bus stop so if I arrive early, and if the doors in the passage way are not propped open (which they often are in the summer), then I try another shot, hoping for good luck with the passing folk and their reflections.

  3. It sounds like something special, to have a spot like this that you get to see regularly, at different times of the day. That’s what we always say about nature, isn’t it, “it’s constantly shifting with the light and the seasons”, but this makes me realise that street views are the same, an ever changing scenery. I love your photos and your thoughts around them. How little we know about the reflections of others…

    • Thank you so much for commenting. It is true, we know very little about such reflections and are left to imagine what they might be.
I like this spot, it is right next to the bus stop which I have stood at many times, and will many more. At this time of the year, the shadows at the bus stop are quite compelling too and I have been trying to capture some interesting ones, one of which I will show tomorrow.
