Cat Nest
For some reason, yesterday’s photos of the wasps’ nest reminded me of this shot I took of the Cat last week, shown here with three different treatments.
The Cat must have been pretty tired to allow for a couple of bracketed images to be taken without even a twitch of a whisker or ear.
The blanket She is on is white and red, but I found it worked better in black and white. Of course, She works better in colour, the brighter the better I think. Though I do like the patterned black and white, which was what I was anticipating when I took these shots.

Great images – All good but my money is on No 2 as the best of the three. I love the added colour. May sound strange from someone like me who loves black and white usually, but that contrast in textures, patterns and also colour just seems to make that such a good image.

Thank you Andy. Of the colour versions, that one is my preference too. I think it has better balance overall, and parts of the Cat that are black, or nearly so, seem to blend better into the surrounding black and white.

Great textures! Contrary to my usual pattern, I think I prefer the black and white one this time – it really brings out those contrasting textures well.

Hi Laurie. I think that IS your usual pattern, now that you mention it. I too like the black and white, though I prefer my Cat in colour!

I used to have cats, and they were black and white (“tuxedo cats”),,,as was my childhood dog (Boston terrier) – so maybe that’s why I prefer that version! 🙂

Great texture and pattern study – plus I just want to get down there and snuggle up with the kitty 🙂

Me too, though it always seems a shame to disturb her when she is sleeping this soundly.

The textures of fur and fabric are really great! A gorgeous model.

She is a gorgeous model! The weaving is pretty nice too.

Oh my gosh, what a great post, Ehpem! Of course, She is the star of the show here, no doubt, but I just can’t get over the differences in the look and feel across your selections posted! My personal preference, and only very slightly, is with the 2nd rendition here. Nah, I take that back, it’s the first one… nope, just took another look and everyone seems to be right here, the third one is a winner!!

Hey Toad – I think you safely covered your bets on this one! I like them all, for different reasons. I lead with the bright yellows one because it was what I was reminded of by the wasps’ nest, but I think in other circumstances and I was only going to post one of them, it would be the third since that was what I had in mind (more or less) when I was taking the pictures.

Love the textures in the b&w. Parts of Puss-Cat’s fur looks metalicised. A metal-moggy – nice. Like the colour ones too.

Thanks Katherine. Moggy is such a not-Canadian word. The Brits use it too so I am familiar with it, but I don’t think of cats that way.

It is a nice name to give a cat. One of my favourite books as a child had a cat in it called Mog.

One of our kids favourites too – about a small Cornish town cat. Can’t recall the book name.

It was Mog and Me.

Oh yeah. And the one I was thinking of was not a Mog story, but “Mousehole Cat” which is a terrific story too. There was “Mog and Bunny” too, wasn’t there?

Awww. I also like the last one, it’s great!

Thanks Littleislander 🙂 I will tell Her that you like it.

I like to think of these as a “plan view” of your cat, who seems to be VERY tired. I agree with you re. the camouflaging effects in the b&w version; it’s the best shot of the three.

Hi Melinda – why am I not surprised that you like the b&w version the best? And they are indeed plan views.

Sorry to shock you like that….! I stopped by to visit my dad on my way home this evening; he’s a cat lover from way back and I thought he’d like the photos. He looked at all the shots, and when he came to the last one said, “That cat looks like a sofa cushion!”
LikeLike
Ha! She has been getting into the neighbour cat’s food (we think) because as we reduce her serving size, she grows larger. Just like a cushion. About as energetic as one too!

My cat is fairly cushion-like as well, both in terms of daily energy spent (not) moving, and her robust size!

“plan view” nice description. Makes me look at each pic a bit differently.

If you want a realistic looking cat #1 and #2 are it, but when looking at these photos from the angle of design or graphic elements #3 wins hands down. I also like that nice tight crop on #3.

Thank you Joseph. I like the third one as well, for the same reasons, and the camouflaging effects the weaving background has on the cat.

Of course I’m a sucker for cat photos, but this is really nice. Emo’s gonna love it.
