Grandchild
My first grandchild was born today, a little girl. All are healthy and happy.
This is her, stretching her toes and feet at a bit more than 2 hours old.

Many, many heartfelt congratulations! I see you have a new muse for your photography endeavors, Ehpem! We are so happy for you, we hope you enjoy being grandparents and all the joys it brings with it!

Thank you Toad. It is kind of fun to take pictures of the little one. I had not remembered that part. Also, it is great to be able to play with black and white conversion to deal with things like jaundiced skin, or watermelon red from a recent cry. Just does not work well in colour 🙂

Spoken like a true, doting grandfather!! 😀

It would be easier to dote if I were able to see her – I have been having the flu or cold that is going around and thus have been afraid to infect her, so have only had very short and infrequent visits, and no holding yet. 😦

Both Mrs. Toad and I sincerely hope that this has passed and that you have, or will soon, have a chance my good friend.

Yes, that is all taken care of – I am still not feeling great (this thing lingers) but I am able to cuddle and dote now 🙂

Congratulations Ehpem, you and Mrs. Ehpem are going to be wonderful grandparents! I am thinking that her first Christmas present will likely be a Fisher-Price camera(??) 🙂

Hi Mrs. Toad and thank you. Not a bad idea! Perhaps a hand made doll will be in there too! At least we have 11 months to think about that.

Congratulations, how exciting! And a great new photography subject—at least until she gets big enough to run away!

Thank you skadhu! So, I have a couple of years 🙂 She will learn to frown before then, and otherwise signal ‘get that lens our of my face’.

Thank you Andy. I was just over visiting. She is just as cute as the first day.
I wonder if I will be thinking that in 15 years when she is getting tattoos and piercings (or whatever the equivalent is then).

Wow congrats! Such a special time for you… I foresee a new photography subject focus in your future. Are you grandad, gandpa or gramps? lol 🙂

Hi Ella. I have no idea what name is going to settle on me. There are at least two pre-existing grandfathers (now gr-grandfathers) in the picture and now two new ones so I expect something will be devised to distinguish me from them. I will take a few pics here and there. Whether many will show on the blog is another matter entirely!

Of course… but for your private collection. 🙂 I know I’ll probably go overboard when I start having mine (kids that is, great grandkids is going to have to wait a while long).

Congratulations Mr E., and family, on the arrival of your newest family member. Her parents must be thrilled to have such a stunningly unique portrait to commemorate her arrival. I am sure there are many more private ones that are just as wonderful. Looking forward to a hand-portrait!

Thanks Katherine! I doubt they have seen it yet. Except, hmmm, I think I did send it to them. Asking if it was alright to post it. I didn’t bother to wait for an answer – could be days in coming. Typical dad. Not to mention granddad. A hand portrait was not possible, though her hands were every bit as fascinating as her feet.

Thanks Ken. I am hoping for some soppy baby pictures, with kittens. I won’t promise to not inflict them on you, because those kinds of promises I may not be too good at keeping.

Thanks Milton. It is indeed. Of course, I instantly had grey hair and a stooped walk and am now prefacing all my spoken conversation with “when I was a boy” (you know, “when I was a boy, I had to walk to school uphill in both directions”, that kind of thing).

Thanks David! These little toes were going a mile a minute – I think they must have been glorying in the freedom to stretch and the feeling of air. Totally sensory stimulation from one end of the body to the next in the first little while into the wide world.
