Iris Ends

More of the withered irises in my garden. For a while after the blossoms started to dry up, there was often a single spike above the crumbling petals.
Literally an ending.

I like the second shot quite a bit – the diagonal placement, the black background, and the bright part near the center all work very well together.

Thanks Melinda. I am a bit unsure about that shot – I would have liked more of it in focus, and the framing is perhaps too centred and symmetrical.
I could not get at an angle to get more of it in focus (it was quite tall) and I needed a shallow depth of field to keep the shutter speed up. I suppose I could have walked 25 feet to get my tripod and set it up, but there was also a breeze… Anyway, technical difficulties aside, it is simple and that alone is often a good starting place.

Very nice series. And I see a tiny web in there, too. It looks to be the focal point of the last photo.

Yes, the ubiquitous webs. Focusing, hand-held, with a breeze, on a subject like this was about broad targets and lots of hope. A few shots worked out just right, many more did not.
But, the webs are a good place for focussing, and indeed I was looking at it through the view finder, because in macro work they tend to be in our out of focus, and nothing in between.
