Shadow Cat

IMG_4752

A while ago I introduced you to Cat Number Two who adopted us this summer. She is very shy, and it is hard to get close to her, especially with a large camera. Thus, these shots are with a 100mm lens from the other side of the room, in lower light conditions. And heavily cropped, as you can tell. Even for all their flaws, I really like the idea of the cat’s shadow on the floor. We don’t need the cat to know what this is all about.

Cat Number One is still rather unhappy, but they are developing a tolerance of each other. They still play some games at the cat door, blocking each other’s use of it in one direction or the other, batting with paws and hissing if one comes through at the wrong time. And there are occasional vocal complaints punctuated with hisses. But they can sit in the same room now, in a mostly relaxed way if neither is moving. Alert, but putting on blasé.

  1. I love those shadows. Without the feet in the first shot, it would be hard to realize it was a shadow at all – more like a stain. But then cats often have an air of mystery about them.

  2. C2 casts a nice shadow. I don’t think Emo would tolerate another animal in the house, he’s so used to not sharing. We spoiled the little guy but he seem happy and enjoys the attention. He was found outside so he’s a rescued cat but he has no desire to go out, which is fine with me.

    • Well C1 and C2 tolerate each other best just before being fed. At other times they seem to have much larger personal spaces. I think we are making progress. C1 was spoiled rotten too and we did not really want to impose a ‘friend’ upon her, but C2 needed help, and let us know it…
