On the Road
Somewhere among the Victoria pavement repair crews is an artist with a can of tar. This is not his only work either.
This picture has a light leak, but after trying some fixes I just left it. It is OK I think. I can shoot this scene again – it is quite close to the storm drain.

Never mind the light leak – what a classy idea of that artist.

Hi Andy – I totally agree. Since it is not the only one I wonder if it might even be thought to have some function at stopping the spread of certain kinds of cracks, or the formation of potholes, or something. I bet, if nothing else, that is his excuse and he’s sticking to it.

I think the leak works in this case, thanks for the share!

It’s a bit ironic that the guy brushing the tar onto the pavement is also fixing leaks, in his own way.

Honestly, I don’t think I would have even noticed the light leak, because I was so interested in the pattern on the road. If I squint at it, the spiral takes on the appearance of a hole in the pavement, connecting it with the silvery water.

Thanks for the comment Melinda. We drove right over this a few times and until when I took this picture I never noticed it. Nor did I notice a hole in the pavement.

It really is a great shot. And it’s possible that I am a little jealous that you got to see it!

Well, I can easily take you to see it, and others too. We need to make an itinerary or something 🙂

It’s more than”okay”! This is an excellent shot, with or without the light leak.

The lighting was perfect, and it compensated perfectly for a shot of the house behind me which is a truly horrible example of the wrong architect in the wrong location which I was trying to photograph. Then as I walked along the sidewalk a bit further the light caught this swirl and I knew what needed photographing.
I tried cropping it and a black and white conversion, but neither worked as well as this version does. It sure is fun to find things like this just lying on the road – kind of like painted markings. There for months or years, but transitory even so.
