Cemetery Flare

I took these shots when I was setting up a timelapse sequence and trying to get the exposure right. I ended up with three brackets that I processed together. Shortly after this the sun went behind the cloud and I lost the wonderful light on the Chinese Cemetery, but I also lost the lens flare.

I can’t decide if the flare ruins the photo. I tried different treatments and I think that the Lightroom split tone preset (below) applied to the HDR image (above) allows the lens flare a more comfortable home in the photo. But I do like the camas in the foreground in the colour versions.

Cloud Pool IV

When there is a good sky I am drawn to these pools at the Chinese Cemetery, sometimes they have perfect reflections, and at others like yesterday’s when it is windy, they are more abstract and oily patches of light in the bedrock.

I have previously posted about these pools, last year with Cloud Pool and more recently with Cloud Pool II and III, all of pools a bit closer to the water than this one. This pool is up near the top of the bedrock hill at the east end of the cemetery. I think the strong wind had either blown some of the water out of the pool, or maybe it did not fill yet after a week of sunshine.

Monochrome Ferry

Chelan 1

Once again I touch down into the archives of my spring 2012 series on the Friday Harbor Labs. I will be returning for a weekend visit, next week. So this seems like a good time to look at the Washington State Ferry “Chelan”. The MV Chelan serves the route from Sidney BC to Anacortes WA, which winds through the San Juan Islands. Sidney to Friday Harbor is about 90 minutes, not including passing across the border which can add quite a bit of time. Or not, depending on apparently random circumstances.

Iris Leaves II

Iris Leaves spring mono 3

Last fall I posted about iris leaves which were on their way out. Today’s shots are from the same part of the garden, but of the new leaves. No blossoms yet, but one of the points of having irises in the garden is their foliage.

Ogden Point Frame

Pilot Boat Dock Frame

This shot is another still from a time-lapse video, one of several I shot late last week. This is the frame for the arrival of the pilot-boat at its dock shortly after I set the shot up.  I have processed a lot of time-lapse sequences, but am still trying to figure out what to do with them.
