Happy Birthday
It’s my mother’s birthday today. Happy Birthday! Last weekend we went for a very nice walk, on a perfect day, down to Deadman’s Bay on San Juan Island. So, this fits into my Friday Harbor series and is a chance to say Happy Birthday from afar.
In the top photo, the low islands in the distance to the right are Chatham and Discovery, both just off shore of Victoria – part of Victoria can be seen at the extreme right. And yes, those are shoes hanging on the powerline. Not, however, gold coloured, or cowboy boots, but then this is WA, not TX.
The trail down to the beach was surprisingly gentle compared to what we remembered from a few decades ago, when we last ventured down here. It was a very pleasant walk. The upper path was shaded by arbutus and maple trees.
.
Then it was back to the cabin at the labs for a cuppa, and more chat.

Also: Texas was overcompensating with those gold boots. We are jealous that we don’t have the scenery Washington does.

I hear Austin has a lot going for it, but this is a pretty special spot. Not seen here are the dozen or so kayaks pulled up on the beach, or the killer whales passing off shore.

It looks as though you need to visit Austin, and I need to head up your direction…

Thanks Ken. I expect it will be a good day, my sister and niece arrived yesterday from Europe so that will add a lot to the day.
