This post brings to an end my 2016 52 rolls project. It consists of images from several packs of instant film, all shot in the Christmas week and mostly of the mundane aspects of holiday festivities. There are lots of soft, poorly lit, instant prints made with an Instax Mini 8 in this post. And a deliberate double exposure or two made with a Polaroid Land 100. If you like those kinds of photography, then check out this link.
This is my “Roll” 52 for 2016, though in fact it includes images from 4 packs of instant film. I am amazed that I got to this point on time this year as I was unable to post or even comment on other people’s posts for several months due to being away and totally off grid and other pressures on my time. In various ways I did not meet all the rules this year. Apart from not posting in a timely manner, there were a couple of weeks that I did not get a chance to shoot any film. Some weeks I shot several rolls so in the end I shot 67 rolls or packs of film with 21 different cameras. I have three rolls in cameras that were loaded this year that are unlikely to be finished until 2017.

A sticker on the Coho Ferry, a form of advertisement, and graffiti.
Inverted in post.
Yesterday’s retrospective of my 2016 film photography resulted in a couple of calls of “more storm drain” in 2017. It is New Year’s Day – a day when people develop bucket lists of things to accomplish in the coming 365 days.
So, here we are, it’s 2017, and we have the storm drain again, complete with bucket. These shots were made on my phone last April. This is the only time I have seen people set up lawn chairs on the drain, which when I think about it is kind of surprising. The real question here is (more…)

This post is a collection of some favourite shots from my 2016 52 Rolls project (you can see all my 52 Rolls posts here). Some will be familiar, but since some were not directly visible in Burnt Embers reblogs from 52Rolls.net there should be images new to most of you.
I really appreciate all the comments and likes and other support from my own followers and the 52Rolls.net community and I have really enjoyed seeing all the film and other photos this year.
As I write this, a few days before News Year’s Eve, I am dubious about taking part in a 2017 (more…)

This is from a roll of colour that was published on my 52 Rolls project (this link).
I thought it looked like a good candidate for conversion to black and white, so have revisited it.
I decided to shoot the Christmas festivities entirely with an Instax Mini 8 and colour instant film. I shot nearly all of three packs which will show up as the 52nd “roll” for my 2016 52 Rolls Project.
I am jumping that gun with this picture of my granddaughter helping make the decorative crust on a chestnut and Brussels sprout pie. She painted the holly leaves, helped put the top on, and the leaves onto the top and sprinkled the red peppercorns. When it came to eating it, she was less enthusiastic and stuck with turkey. I, on the other hand, had a nice wedge of the pie which is delicious and great for the vegetarian contingent at Christmas dinner which has made it an annual favourite.
