A second view from the Passing Cloud, while the Anna Inlet anchorage, Moresby Island, Gwaii Haanas.
My first view of this location, looking in the opposite direction, can be seen at Anna Inlet.
Further to my post Steller, this is a large male Steller Sea Lion observed while touring on the Passing Cloud.
This guy looks like he is in charge, but as he is quite isolated from females, it may be that he has been recently deposed by another male.
Seen at the Garcin Rocks rookery/haulout east of Benjamin Point near the south end of Moresby Island.
Another photo from my trip on the Passing Cloud, this time in what is called locally Burnaby Narrows (Dolomite Narrows on the chart), in Gwaii Haanas, Haida Gwaii.
The schooner, Passing Cloud, my home for a few weeks in July, under sail in Gwaii Haanas, Haida Gwaii.
While on the Passing Cloud we saw Humpback whales many times.
This one was seen in Louscoone Inlet for about an hour – it was slapping its pectoral fins on the water surface for long periods, punctuated by the occasional dive.
While on the Passing Cloud we had several encounters with Risso’s dolphins.
I had not seen this kind of dolphin before this trip, but we met two distinct groups.
One sighting consisted of 100 or so individuals, all adults, seen in Louscoone Inlet for several hours.
They may actually have been more than one group as they seemed to travel in clumps of 30 or so.
The other numbered about 30 and included numerous calves and we saw them at the south end of Burnaby Narrows and a few days later in Rose Harbour.
On my last night while at anchor in Houston Stewart Channel we could hear them breathing and splashing around the boat long after dark – a spooky experience I am unlikely to repeat.
Dawn from the Passing Cloud while at anchor between cruises in Gordon Cove on Moresby Island, Haida Gwaii.
