Crow with Sky Fingers

This is a revisit to an image I posted two years ago. It is still one of my favourite photos.
And so, I have been back to it a few times since then, though have not posted any other versions.

Canon EOS 5D Mkii, Canon 5omm/f1.4, polarizing filter, ISO 200, f2.2, 1/2,000th

Really stunning shot. Lovely sky, amazing composition – thanks for (re)sharing

Hi Paula and thank you! It was wonderful sky, and uncommonly cooperative birds too.

Drama! And the bird sings! Luck, patience or preseverance to get that decisive moment? Whatever it was it makes a wonderful shot.

Hi Andy. It was luck only in the sense that after I missed it the first time, it called again when I was ready to take the shot and knew that was what I wanted. I have some without the open beak and they are not nearly as satisfying.

The mood is wonderful with the colour shift. I like those ‘ribs’ in the sky.

Thanks Karen. I would love to see clouds like this at sunset, but this colouring hints at how that might be.

Thanks Ken! A sky to die for, and very unusual for around here.

Very nice – the yellow adds a lot of drama to the scene. Thanks for reposting it, too, because I didn’t see it the first time! (This version is better…)

Thanks Melinda! The previous version was processed in picasa which I used for about a year before I made the leap to software with more control. Now I only use picasa sometimes for adding a quick border since it puts outside the image, unlike some of the software I use now that puts it inside and over the edges of the photo.

I remember discussing Picasa with you about this time last year…. I think there’s a way to do borders where they don’t eat up your image. Let me research it for you (how about THAT turn of events?!); I’ll email later once I actually know what I am talking about.

Thanks! I can do them in some of the software I use, but often they eat away at the edges, which can be annoying.
