Storm Break Blues

2015-OlyMJUii-015-008

A few days ago I posted a phone shot taken at this same time as Storm Break. Today’s shots are on film; expired no-name film probably from Kodak (it is packaged in the US). I love the blue colours the film has lent to the scene.

The rest of this roll of film is featured in my week 50 post at 52 Rolls – Downtown 50 – published at the same time as this one.

Here is the rest of today’s roll of film posted at 52Rolls.net. This one has shots from the Cowichan Valley, around Victoria and especially Ross Bay.

The other half of this roll was posted earlier today on Burntembers here: http://wp.me/p1R4lY-7hw

2015-OlyMJUii-014-004Today’s post has shots taken on an Olympus mjuii (aka Stylus Epic) that has lived in my pocket all fall – these photographs date from early November through to a mid-December. I have taken other photos with other cameras film and digital during that time but there are some subjects and occasions when the mjuii is my preference.

This is my week 49 I am once again working with a roll of Ilford XP2 that expired in about 2004. My week 19 used a roll of this same batch of film that came in a camera case I bought. Both rolls have profound shifts in their colour to a bright green and grey negative. I previously posted a scan showing the negative colour here. The first roll posted in Green and White was quite easy to scan and convert to black and white images. This second is the most…

Aftermath on Film

2015-OlyMJUii-014-028

Recently I have posted photos of storms in Ross Bay, and the aftermath in terms of large concentrations of driftwood along the walkways. This roll of film was shot over more than a month, but includes quite a few shots from the Ross Bay area.

The rest of this roll of film can be found at Green and White II as part of my 52 Rolls project.

Another conversion to black and white of a shot from my 52Rolls post of a few days ago.

I have photographed this same hedge in similar light on medium format before in a post called Hedge Edge.

I don’t think I have got it right yet – these shots don’t quite convey what I see as I drive past on these kinds of days.

Storm Break

One of the things that is so wonderful about Victoria is that even in the middle of a long period of winter cloud and storm the sun will appear for a few minutes, or an hour, here and there throughout the week. When it does, the light is great so it is always worth having a camera along to make the most of these unpredictable moments.

This was made with my phone, though I have some film in a camera of the same scene that may, or may not, come out since it is no-name rebranded and probably long expired film.
